This garden was created for the Urban Garden category for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2009. Despite its name, this garden was an on-trend modern urban retreat with a nod to the kitsch and built with cost efficiency, wildlife and the enviroment in mind.
The garden was very structured with clean contemporary lines. Boundaries consisted of a mixture of artwork-covered walls and stacked logs. A hardwood deck formed the main floor space and a series of concrete circles acted as additional hard standing breaking through the lush green planting. A canopy of hornbeam provided shade and a relaxing sound was provided by a sculptural water feature.
The stacked logs provided a habitat for all sorts of animals, from the tiniest micro-organisms to small mammals - a great way of providing a complete ecosystem which sat completely comfortably in its modern, stylish surroundings.
