Chris Gutteridge    BA (Hons), Dip LA, MSGD

Garden Designer, Landscape Architect & Journalist

I am often asked how I got into garden design and, in truth,  I am not sure. One thing for certain is that I have always enjoyed all aspects of design and being in the great outdoors. After completing my A-Levels, I went off to Cheltenham (University of Gloucestershire) to read Garden Design and Landscape Architecture. It was here that I met Ant. Following my degree, I decided that I loved university so much that I needed another year before throwing myself into work . I also wanted to gain a more in depth understanding of Landscape Architecture. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at the University of Kingston-upon-Thames.

As well as co-founding Second Nature I have done a variety of other things. I have been a part-time lecturer in Garden Design for three years. Since 2009, I have been writing for a local magazine, The Urban Fox. I was also privileged to be asked to be a guest speaker in Garden Design at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show this summer. I am also proud to be the resident Garden Design expert on BBC Radio Leicester's ‘Down To Earth’ gardening show. I am a committee member of the Society of Garden Designers and through this I will be looking at expanding the society's use of digital media.

I live in the heart of Leicester with my wife, Jenna, whom I met at school.  I am the captain of a local cricket team and if I was not a Garden Designer,  I would love to have played cricket for a living.
