Whenever you meet a client for the first time you never quite know what garden will result or on what scale and this is particularly true with this project. Working alongside the architect, we had the opportunity to design the spaces together and the resulting view from inside the kitchen/living space looking across the whole garden is stunning. Because the garden fell away from the house so dramatically we wanted to create a series of terraces that flowed down onto the large rectangular lawn.
The drystone walls are testament to our skilled stonemasons and really make the whole design. It was decided that the gym room should be set in the garden and framed with a large plane of water, adjacent to this are three multi-stemmed Amelanchier trees which lead you down towards the wide steps and lawn beyond. Inspired by the gardens at Vaux le Viscount outside Paris, the bottom of the garden has a sunken orchard only visible when you reach what you think is the hedge at the end of the main lawn.
